Unit 8- Loving-Kindness and Meditation
Loving-Kindness is something that seems to be always with me without even thinking about it. Monday, I needed to go downtown Kansa City, for all you sports fan we are having basketball chaos so that means no parking. I chose to take the city bus, I live on what is known here as a Max (quick) route. On my way back the bus stopped and picked up a gentleman with a cane and a heavy grocery bag, I instantly got up and gave him my seat and began to speak with him. It was then that he told me his exit was at my stop, he was riding to Kansas. I took his bag and carried it across two streets for him and not one thought came to my mind. He was speaking of how angry he was about his leg; I turned to him and said “but you have been blessed with an awesome rest of your life, and it counts”.
The guy said “I never thought of that”, I crossed two streets and walked through the light and a woman on the bus stop going east said to me, “As small as you are, you carried that heavy bag, it sure was nice of you”, I “ replied “No just right of me”. I proceeded to walk the next block home and thought no more of it until now. Acts of loving-kindness are not to be boasted about, because by then they come not by your heart, and it is as if an award you expect. They are silent acts, just as meditation. I think that is why I so enjoy them. One may do it and move on and keep it to ones own self. Like donating money in private anonymously, your secret. What I enjoy best is that nothing has to change; this can stay the same in my life because it works well, and helps others around me to grow and flourish to greater potential. Namaste
Great post, and that is great that you were able to help that man. It is important that when we do these acts, we are doing them out of the kindness of our hearts and not because we are expecting something in return as you stated. By being able to help people with the troubles in their life, we are then instantly rewarded on the inside.
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!
Random act of kindness beautiful thought blessing in action. Romans 12: 9-21 I like the condensed version:
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10 Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;
Standing by one’s conviction is a blessing in of itself as you stated in your post sometimes we can’t see our blessings or the kindness of another because we are blinded by our own reality. Someone noticed that simple act of kindness and whether it was interpreted as an inconvenience to you or something entirely different you summed up the experience perfectly “it was just right for me”.
Peace
Vinnie
Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI tend to perform public acts of kindness because I am in the practice of performing private acts of kindness and it has taken me a while to realize this is true for many. When we are in the habit of doing what is right for us and sets well with out morale standards it shows inside of our lives and our character permeates our acts. I aim to be Christ-like and I must humble myself daily and aspire that my acts on day will reflect Christ's mercies, blessings, and teachings.

I also chose Loving-Kindness as a beneficial exercise in the health care profession. This exercise help us focus on the well-being of the patient or individual. I also help us as professionals to stay positive which will help keep stress at bay. I can definitely speak loving-kindness words to others. It is amazing how this can help someone see themselves in a positive way. Great Post :<)
